We took a little break from our normal school studies, and decided to go with my in-laws to Seattle. We went down to the Pier to take a 1-hour tour of the harbor.

While we were waiting to board, we went into "Ye Old Curiosity Shop" on Pier 54. In this shop of
knick-knacks and
souvenirs, there were also things that I thought were Halloween decorations, because they were a little gory. There were Halloween decorations, to be sure, but I saw two mummified corpses that are on permanent display. One was found in the desert somewhere, and I don't know where the other was found.

They also had shrunken heads on display--actual real shrunken heads! I think I've had my Halloween fill for the year. It was rather creepy. I always thought shrunken heads were made out of something other than, well, heads, but there was a display card that told how the tribes did it. There was also a real mummified dog on the wall. I think they should change the name to "Roadkill Shop." The dog was disgusting. I was a little grossed out, and was glad when it was time to board the boat for our harbor cruise. Soupy (grandpa) took Brooke and Stuart to a bug museum. I opted out of that one. I didn't want to spend $8.00 to see a bunch of bugs. I see plenty around my house.

After the cruise we went to Pike's Place Market. I found an awesome over-the-shoulder bag, and my MIL bought one just like mine.

Sam met us for dinner at this great Asian/Polynesian restaurant (The Islander), down the street from Pike's Place Market, and then we ate gelato at an Italian gelato store around the corner. There is also this awesome musical instrument store there, called
Lark in the Morning that had many odd instruments (I was surprised that I knew what a lot of the odd instruments were). A lot of them were Irish-type instruments. They also had a
bass box that I tried out. I played an octave mandolin, which sounded like something between a guitar and mandolin (maybe I should add that to my wish list). It's played like a mandolin.
It was nice to get away and spend time with family.

I went to see the "Ye Old Curiosity Shoppe" back in April with Josh and my in-laws. I was reading about those people found in the desert and such. I found it pretty interesting. on the other hand I don't know if I want to be that person not in a grave resting in peace but rather gawked at till my spirit returns... LOL anyways, ooh and I like the Red Robin they have there overlooking the harbor... glad you had fun
